A Study on the Residual Organochlorine Pesticides in Soil and Water

Abstract
An investigation was carried out to measure the concentration of residual ¥ã-BHC, DDT, Heptachlor Aldrin and Endrin in soil and water of rice paddie in An Yang, So Sah and Kim Po during a three month period, from July 1, 1973 to September 30, 1973.
Following are the major findings obtained from the study.
1. Soil contained 0.0050 ppm of ¥ã-BHC, 0.0022 ppm of DDT, 0.0012 ppm of Heptachlor, 0.0020 ppm of Aldrin and a trace of Endrin. in three areas.
2. Water was found to have the mean concentration of 0.0015 ppm of ¥ã-BHC, 0.0017 ppm of DDT, 0.0002 ppm of Heptachlor 0.0003 ppm of Aldrin in and the concentration of Endrin ranged from undetectable to 0.0002 ppm.
3. The area which showed the highest degree of soil pollution is as follows: ¥ã-BHC in An Yang with 0.0143ppm, DDT in An Yang with 0.0092 ppm, Heptachlor in So Sah with 0.0064 ppm, Aldrin in An Yang with 0.0084 ppm and Endrin in So Sah with 0.0003 ppm.
4. The Area with the highest concentration of each of those pesticides in water is as follows: ¥ã-BHC in Kim Po with 0.0057ppm, DDT, in An Yang with 0.0065 ppm, Heptachlor in So Sah with 0.0023 ppm, Aldrin in An Yang with 0.0015 ppm, Endrin in So Sah with 0.0002 ppm.
